Message: Hello all
I decided to add this to my contract wrote it Sunday feel free to add to your contract.
I thought this important enough to share here.

Contract Addendum on Energy save mode
I have run into the problem over and over, and the worst offender are techs giving in to users complaints.
The customers say the machine is too slow, I had this on 45 PPM machines and realized it is not the speed but first page speed. Found the computer guys setting machine up from 5 minutes before it went to power save to 1 hour before power save.
I may offer a higher per page or higher minimum monthly use to cover the cost verse pro-rate charges
19. Energy Saving and Green Default Setting
All Manufacturers are required to have a built in government-mandated “energy save” mode. These are set to the default setting by the manufacturer for proper operation of the machine. If the setting(s) are changed to bypass the energy save mode (e.g. set to a longer period of time before energy save shut down goes into effect), parts and supply damage will occur. In the event the user changes, or an agent (such as I.T. person) on their behalf changes the settings, or user demands a setting change, a pro-rate charge will be levied on parts/supplies replaced premature to normal yield and life expectancy, including but not limited to Drums, Fuser, Toner, Laser units, Developer units, paper path guides and power supply and main boards. These items are normally covered by the contract but customer choosing to change the energy settings modifies the coverage of parts/supplies under this contract.

Message: We have yet to have a problem with any consumable part directly related to the "Energy Save" mode. This mode was never designed to save on the wear and tear of parts. To cover parts I do net see this as making any sense. Whether the machine is set for 5 minutes or 1 hour the machine will still take the same amount of time to warm up. It all comes down to that when the customer hits "print" or "copy" they want that machine to be spitting out paper fast.
Now if the customer were to complain about his electric bill not going down because he now has an "Energy Star" compliant copier I can see where this could come in handy.
Now saying it is not a bad idea.

Message: way too technical. at the most is a service charge for somebody doing something or changeing controls to your machine, that warrants a service call.

Message: yak does have a point. to me, it depends on the user, and how frequently they may print, copy, etc. in other words, how often the exhaust fan kicks in "high gear". i still feel strongly that heat damage is, or can be, a problem. yes, even on these newer machines. plastic parts do not like heat. but...to each their own.

your invoice only contract is interesting
but there comes place where people must agree on what is and what is not covered
if you have nothing then everything is covered OR you get in a pissing war with the customer. However after reading all your post I can see that may be what you want.
as for the customer pleasing me or me pleasing them
the answer is BOTH a mutual understanding means they pay me, I am happy and they know just what they get for that money and they are happy.
and then there are customers I do not want,, they are the ones who will never be happy. I leave them for the techs who will never be happy either.
many people think drink and drugs will make them feel better and thus their perception is distorted. but in the light of day they are even more unhappy. Giving up drinking and drugs will Not make you happy in it's on right, but it puts you in a better place to access the happiness of life.
unhappy people often want everyone else as miserable as they are, and thus by comparison think they look better.
I hope others can realize life is short and there are so many small things in life like the birds and trees. a good sandwich a real good cup of coffee.
If you want to share, share the good and let the bad fade.
We cannot not be all things to all people
if we try to be all things to all people
we will be nothing
you have a real nice day
