Subject: Minolta CF2001 IU reset chips... IP: Logged
Message: I just purchased a set of these IU reset chips that are supposed to enable the resetting of a "replace cartridge" message for any particular color. Problem is they came in with no instructions or procedure on how to do it. The "old chip/connector" is hard-wired into the color units, and it looks like a disaster waiting to happen to remove them. The new chips have little PWB's that do not look conducive to replacement on the unit anyway.
Any body ever use/do this type of thing, and if so, can you e-mail me a procedure? the machine is a Minolta CF2001 color copier, and I need to reset the magenta message asap! Help please???
Thanks. Jim

Message: Very simple if they are similar to the 2002/3102.you remove the tiny chip (circuit board) with a small screwdriver (2 very small screws) and screw the new one where you removed it. Takes less then 5 mins.

Message: Frank... thanks for the reply, but as I said it doesn't "appear" that easy (except for the 2 screws part).
The original "connector/chip" assy on the IU is hardwired to/into the IU. In other words, it has wires running from it to some other componants in the IU. I have no idea for what. Could be toner density sensors, toner motors, charge control, or anything.
Do I just "cut" these wires and remove the chip assy and replace it with the reset chip with no wires? I'm thinking I need a more "in-depth" explanation before I do that, just for my own piece of mind. Any additional info would be appreciated.

Message: i have never seen or heard of these being hardwired. they should have a little plug on the little pwb under the front cover of the unit. unless some idiot modified this.if so i would just go ahead and replace the unit and save the chip pwb for next time. the magenta unit i a weak link on this model. after you do this let the machine run until it finishes the atdc calibration 3 to 5 minutes. if you stop it or open the door while this happens you have to swap the chip again

Message: I have never seen the 2001 IU's but I think they are similar to the 2002/3102. The Y,C,M color units have chips that are removed with two screws and new chip is put in.
Black IU chip is behind front cover. Remove 4 screws on front cover, cover will come off, you will see chip. Spread clips to release the chip, unplug connector. Put new chip in and reverse these instructions.

Message: OK... did some dis-assembly, and the wires that come off the "original chip assy" (6 of them) plug directly into a small interface type PWB on the front of the IU, which in turn runs directly to a cleaning/discharge type lamp assy over the color units photoreceptor. I haven'y tried it, but my thinking is that if I remove the old assy and wiring harness (it just plugs in to that Interface pwb) and replace it with the "stand-alone reset chip, I'm gonna get some crappy copies, if it works at al;l and doesn't throw up an error without the discharge lamp being wired in... Ideas?

Message: Is the machine a per call? As woxner said put a new magenta in and charge them. Most of these reset chips are specific to the machine and the color. Why do we as techs try to cut corners to save customers money that don't take service contracts? If you are trying to save yourself money thats a different story

Message: ok, now I'm starting to wonder if you are even a tech. i don't think a tech would consider disconnecting any wires in the IU. Buy a new IU and be done with it.
Good luck
