Subject: HP laserjet 4010mfp cuts off only on the glass IP: Logged
Message: if you print or use the adf, it prints and copies fine. if you copy on the glass, it shifts the image down in effect it is copying the under side of the machine prior to the top of the original, so you get a black border at the top of the copy say a half of an inch wide. i have gone into the scanner several times looking for any problems with sensors etc. does anyone have any ideas of what may be causing this darn problem?? thanks for any help. Jim

Message: added info, the void at the top is actually just over a 1/4th of an inch and it is at the top of original edge black a little less than 1/8th inch and above that band just over an 1/8th to the top of copy paper is white. probably copying the bottom of the cover . looks like it starts to copy before it gets the the edge of glass and plastic cover. thanks, Jim

Message: Did you try to calibrate? This is what the manual says about the manual calibration:
Manual calibration provides precise control of image placement. Vertical and horizontal image registry for both the ADF and the glass can be set individually. For example, changing the leading-edge adjustment for the ADF does not effect the leading-edge adjustment of the glass.
Hope this helps. If you do not have the manual let me know.

Message: thanks Peter. i see i do have the "service addendum" i did find the adjustments you mentioned. this problem has come back to me on this machine several times over the years.(was always there, but they forget and re ask me to fix it) i will go back and try the procedure. i seem to remember some strange reason i couldn't adjust it. either it wasn't listed in the menu as other problems are with the logic. like it lists XXXXXXXXX for i think serial # and or meter count. i do remember trying to adjust something that gave X and y adjustments. or possibly that i couldn't get into "service" mode on this. in reading the procedure it says go into diagnostics. so i really appreciate your pointing out this method and i will go back out and attempt. let you know. have a nice day, Jim

Message: i went back out. now i remember why i couldn't get in before. when i go to diagnostics, there is no "scanner calibration" in the menu. so i am wondering if the firmware is current. but hp website doesn't list a firmware download for that model or even a list of current firmware codes. then the customer said they will probably get rid of it. but i cant seem to figure out why the menu wouldn't list what the service manual says is there?? thanks for any additional input.
