Subject: Dell 3100cn stripes update IP: Logged
Message: Had a previous post on this, thanks Desert Tech, but after
actually seeing the problem it's not stripes. Only on black
the image will have diagonal slashes across the print,
about 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide, about 1" apart down the
page, which correspond exactly with the toner peeling off
the mag roll. Although it is usually on the right side of
the print, the void areas may travel across, or sometimes
it prints just fine. A pcl page will print just fine, but ps
will always have theses blank slashes. I ran a piece of
paper behind the doctor blade and under to feel for an
obstruction but no good. Don't understand why it's
peeling toner, or why sometimes it will have solid
coverage on the mag roll.

Message: I would suspect the drum unit first before the developer unit. There may be something stuck to the PCR based on your description of 1". The toner is layered on the drum so generally something like this would show up on the black and not necessarily on the other colors. Are you actually seeing the void [missing toner] on the mag roller or assuming the dev unit is to blame? Try running diagnostic pages in the service menu [c/m/y/k test pages] If the problem shows up on all colors on those pages the drum unit is the culprit

Message: I'm thinking Aftermarket toner caused the K DV to
crap out feeding DV material out with the toner. The
DV powder isn't available so You'll have to change
the whole DV unit if that's the case. It's a
daunting job but don't worry the customer most
likely won't approve the expense. -Cope

Message: Thanks for the replies. Although they are using OEM toner
carts, she now tells me that the last time they replaced it,
they had a hard time putting the K in. I did not. That is
what it looked like to me, the dv was being pulled out,
visible voids on the mag roll. I thought this thing was a
mono-component machine. By the way, is this a Lexmark?
Most dell monochromes I have worked on were.

Message: ps I apologize for the way this thing prints on Smarka. It
is ok, I believe on email etc. Any help on that? I am
definitely not a computer whiz.

Message: I think it is an Epson CN-11 or something like that.
Maybe the toner they replaced was the aftermarket
and they actually had a hard time getting it OUT.
I've seen a couple that weren't keyed quite right.
BTW I absolutely HATE this machine. The customer
would do well to replace it. Most were given away
with the purchase of Dell Network equipment. -Cope

Message: The epson CX 11 I think. It had a lot of false paper jam and motor errors at first. POS for sure.

Message: Again, I thank you all for the information. The customer did
not want to repair it, and I am grateful for that also, after
reading the replies here.
