i have a cust. that doesnt like the price of maintenance kits. figures its better for me to buy them and let them save money. with all the crappy reman fusers and some oem's what is a good approach? customer ran over 20k in 45 days on a 4240. should i run or ? i dont have any leases and dont want to get in a big legal agreement. is renting safe and what is a good per click charge if that is the way. or make a monthly based on that usage and total the price of a kit every say 100k. would i include the toner and add that price @ 5% to the cost? any ideas or help like dont do it would be appreciated. have a nice day, Jim

Jim,
I charge 1.6 cents per page and that includes toner and maintenance. But, these customers hace more than 10 printers so I make money

even at one machine that sounds fair. this customer would be paying 217.00 a month based on that. a reman toner with s/h say 60 a month. a kit every few months it may work out. thanks for the help. do you by chance use an agreement form or how would you word it. can you or they back out at any time? thanks Jim

You actually replace a maintenance kit every 200k pages?

my rule of thumb (which i keep smashing lately) is replace it when its bad. if its a customers machine i follow their request to replace the kit after the machine tells them too. or if they have the usual, grinding, marks, print rubs off ect. if its mine only when you cant get around it. when its the customer, when they have to. i find in the high volumes, if it gets past 80 or 90 k, it may make it to the cycle. but until then, its a crap shoot. we can thank "energy star" for that. and the customers "need" for instant ready. guess i got a little winded. sorry, Jim

I had a customer who used their four 4200's in a warehouse, right next to eachother - so much they printed 200k every three weeks. Their company policy was to replace an OEM maintenance kit every 200k pages. When I talked to the head IT guy, we decided to try a different pattern in the fourth one. They were all used equally - so for #4 I used a reman fuser with OEM sleeve, didnt replace the transfer roller, and put the maint message up to 300k - worked fine.

i didn't know or forgot that there was actually "OEM" film. is that true? i have had nothing NOTHING but bad to horrible unacceptable results from any ANY remaned fuser on any high volumes. i.e 4250's, 4350's 4200's 4240's, etc. i even tried doing some myself and same thing. most remans would not fuse properly out of the box. even if i set the temp to high and then that changes the speed to half rate. like a customer would fall for that. now that i think of it, on the canon D 660 family fusers, if i laid to much grease on it when doing a film change it also didnt fuse right. or the sleeve would self destruct in short order, otherwise the pressure roller bushings would fail allowing the shaft to contact the steel frame and also grinding like a blender with rocks in it. i guess if its a rental, and the sleeve is 25 and the gear is 8 and if (quite unlikely) you could milk 20k out of it it may be ok. but when you sell a reman kit and it fails when you install it, or a week later, what does that say about you and your organization? i have gone to "only OEM" on those models. on lower speed printers i have little or no problems. i have heard that there was a problem with the oem bushings a while back but i am still having a problem even with P3005 press bushings. and if you count your time taking several call backs at no charge, not to mention the customers down time, screw it, it aint worth it. i have even had bad OEM fusers on these, and not to even mention the "9050" fuser. for the added cost i cant take a chance anymore. if you guys find a vendor that can reliably provide a reman for these hi volume printers let me know. i might try provided that they have a good warranty. i may have a kit in the van for months before i use it. so the warranty period needs to be much more than 90 days. i may use 2 4350 kits in a day, then go several months till the next. and good ol HP wont supply their parts to do it our selves for some reason. a while back i actually found between several vendors the parts to rebuild a 9050 fuser but the cost was crazy. kinda like the color 2550. anyway,... hell there's a thought, maybe i should sell Amway. no, that's a pyramid scheme. you guys have a nice Thursday. thanks for all the help and support, Jim

I rebuild my own and dont have problems. the grease is the key thing when replacing a sleeve. super grease got it at copylite and its expensive but lasts forever
