DR200 - Engines
There's
a problem of light print on one side of the page even after stripping the laser unit
and cleaning all the glass parts. This can be solved by placing a 1/32" washer over
the left most locator peg of the laser unit. It is caused by warping of the plastic
chassis due to the proximity of the fuser.

CODES
Maintenance mode accessed with: Function *2864. Codes- 01 resets all
parameters, 91 resets all but user info, 55 resets scanner (white level)
99 to exit service mode.

BOARD PROBLEMS
If you get a "Machine error" message or machine just beeps, check cold solder
joints on power supply especially and on the other boards before replacing. If no
luck, change the capacitors on the power supply board.
600 SERIES
CUTTER PROBLEMS
Problem: Not Cutting paper, Paper Jams
Soilution: Check cutter spring. Take cutter out, clean and lubricate. If problem continues
replace gear train assy.
900 SERIES
COPY QUALITY
If you experience grey dotted pages on copies and transmitted faxes and the scanning
mirrors and glass are all clean, then the problem is most likely the camera. Sometimes
this problem can be rectified by simply unplugging the machine for several
hours-preferably overnight, thereby saving a costly camera replacement job. This problem
is peculiar to machines manufactured in 1993 and 1994.
Prints all black on page when sending or copying.
Needs ccd unit. If you're a Brother dealer you can get this unit from Brother under
warranty. Covered even if unit is two years old. Customer still has to pay labor.
CCD REPLACEMENT
After replacing the CCD unit in one of these machines, Brother
recommends you go through a series of initialization steps. There is
simpler installation.
In maintenance mode, instead of using code 01 (complete paramater init),
use code 91. Paramaters will be initialized, but user data stays intact
(your customer will love you!). Instead of all the other codes, just use
code 55. When it sets the scanner area, it also sets white and black
levels automatically. That's all that is necessary!
960, 1260
BLACK PAGES
Should you work on a Brother 1260or 960 printing black pages the hvps
is defective. We just ordered one from Brother and they send a
step-by-step procedure for repairing the board. It seems the diodes,
D30, D31, D32, D33 don't do the job. Brother says to replace them with
jumper wire. Also Transistors Q20, & Q 21 have failed and resistor R109
as well.
I have their repair sheet that also tells you how to get into the
hvps.(This is alot of fun the first time if you have never done it
before.) Use 22 gauge wire for jumpers.
HVPS
I recently had to replace the HVPS on a brother 1260. Had to get a new
one from Brother. They enclosed a sheet stating how to repair their
HVPS, obviously it is a bad board. Here is what they say to do:
Replace Diodes D30, D31, D32, D33 with 22 gauge jumper wire. R & R transistor Q20
(B1568), Q21 (D2399) Replace resistor 109 (2.2 ohm, 1/6 watt. That should do it according
to them. When you work on this if you don't have a manual you have to come down from the
top to get it out. Take the l side cover, upper , and rear covers off. DC fan, Scanner
Unit, Cartridge Stopper assy., cartridge guide l, transfer unit, and finally the HVPS.
Make sure your solder connections are good. You don't want to do this twice.

and 1030 (UK Models).
Check
Paper. By now most models will have had old cream eject rollers replaced with later gray
ones. But have seen many where the cups have become unstuck from the shaft and now foul
the guide causing the shaft to stop rotating and therefore causing the gearbox to jump.
When the top cover is removed you can clearly see the cup or cups fouling. Only and new
roller will cure. A temp fix is to cut away the excess length of the cup to stop it
fouling.

CHECK PAPER PATH error: Remove the paper hopper (2 screws). Clean the
paper eject rollers (off-white in color)

Problem: Displays "Check
Paper" and paper does not eject from machine entirely.
Solution: Replace "Off
White" paper ejection roller with new "Grey" paper ejection roller.
Cleaning the "Off White" roller will not resolve this problem.

Problem: Displays "Check
Paper" and paper jams at Paper Ejection Sensor Actuator.
Solution: Found several defective PC-201 cartridges. Paper Ejection Sensor
Actuator jams in window opening of PC-201 cartridge due to an apparent manufacturing
defect of the cartridge. Note: Actuator works freely when recording paper
cover assembly is open. Problem may be resolved by trimming the window opening by
approximately 1/8" nearest the top of the window.
