PATENT SERVER
Check out the IBM U.S. Patent Server at http://patent.womplex.ibm.com .You can take the patent number off a piece of equipment and retrieve all the drawings and documents that were submitted for patents after 1971. There must be a lot of cross referencing ideas there, assuming a person had enough time to view all the copier and fax-related stuff. I looked at a bunch of CCD and CIS stuff but the electronics info was a little beyond my comprehension. Graphics for individual patent numbers are retrieved from a CDROM and it takes awhile for images to load.
