UF-170 Series

FAX QUALITY
Some of these older units can develop of 1 inch wide black line running down the page. The repair shop will tell you the scan imaging unit needs to be replaced, and it very well might. But, try resoldering the leads under the little glass on the unit first. Cold solder joints can cause one segment of lamps not to work. This can effect the newer units also.

Black Band
Problem: Most of this series has the same problem as the UF170. An inch wide black band running down the page that will come and go.
Solution: It’s caused by a bad solder joint on the LED array.

Grinding Noise
Problem: The recording paper may jam a lot and a grinding noise can sometimes be heard.
Solution: This problem is usually caused by the feed belt for the recording paper feed roller. Try adjusting the tension on the belt or replace the belt.

OUT OF INK ERRORS
First, clean the cartridge, ink tray, and encoder strip. If that does not work try moving the drop sensor under the ink cart closer to the cart, there are also countermeasures involved like a light shade available from panasonic.

UF321/322/315
The code 016 on panafaxs uf321-uf322-uf315 means carriage can't move. The fix is first to clean the encode strip. If this fails, you must replace the ribbon cable. Panafax has a kit with an encoder sensor, ribbon cable, and encoder strip.

UF342-34
Code 015 on uf 342 is caused but the waste tube that is clogged with dried out ink. Clean tube, service station (wiper and pad.  Use water.   Separate waste pads.    These units use a cannon printer engine so it may help on their unit also.

UF-788/755/744 FAMILY
Symptom: 021 printer error code.  Manual says thermistor, lamp, fan or lpc pcb.   Lamp lights, thermistor ohms check out ok, fan works.  Try a new drum cartridge before replacing board.  I learned this the expensive way.

UF-745/755
The toner sensor in the bottom of these machines is very sensitive. The cartridge used is for the Fuji/Xerox XP 5/10 engine. Remanufacturing these cartridges with standard XP5/10 toner usually doesn't reset the machine so it recognizes that it has a full cartridge. What is necessary is special toner that can be purchased at Static Control Components or AQC. I've also heard that you can put a piece of magnet tape on the sensor but haven't tried it myself.
Also, if you take the sensor out to examine it, it does have a plug-in connector. Be sure that you push the connector fully into  the plug on the toner sensor by using a small screwdriver.  It is very easy to not have the connector all the way on which will give you the "toner low" signal too.

UF-744/788 - Code 054
This means the laser unit is bad.  The fix is to exchange the laser unit.

UF744 / 788 fax machine
Problem: Error code 054 laser error.
Solution: You can actually take the laser unit apart by using a small flat-blade screwdriver to remove the "factory screws" painted pink. Then remove top cover and remove the laser prism assembly. Take prism off shaft and clean both with alcohol, take a very small amount of lightweight oil and apply to shaft and put unit back together. I have done this many times and 9 out of 10 times it works, but once in awhile you will need to replace the unit.

KX-F3000

NOISE
Panafax KX-F3000 makes loud clicking noise ( gears skipping ) check the fuser pad to see if its dry .Dont bother putting fuser oil on it , just replace it or leave it out.

KX-F 3100

HERE ARE THE CODES FOR 'E':
E1= Low Fuser temp/ or no fuser temp.
E2= High Fuser temp/ Bad thermistor or board.
E3= Fan Motor Problems
E4= Malfunction of the Video/IF serial
Communications. Check engine & digital PCBs.

4420 PRINTER

FUSER
Cold fuser, good lamp. Cold solder joints on PCB on left front of unit.

Random streaks
I  found when working on a Panasonic KXP-4420 printer which randomly prints streaks,  the cause is heat build up. You should clean behind the ozone filter and fan.  The ozone filter should always be repalced with the drum unit.  Also, make sure the printer is away from the wall ( geting good ventilation).  If this does not resolve the problem try removing the ozone filter for a while.  As a test to see when or if the streaks come back.

KP-4450 and 4450i -
E-13 ERROR
Replace toner supply roller in toner hopper...

KXP8000 series
They use standard 168pin DIMM memory. DO NOT use inkjet paper in the KXP8000 series colour printers. It will ruin the heat roller.
