AR
150 - Paper Jams
On a newly installed AR 150n Digital copier, my customer had a few bad jams in the fuser
within the first 1500 copies. This machine makes severe turns. After a couple of calls to
remove them, I removed the fuser and disassembled the black plastic guide that directs the
paper. There were slight burrs on the guide formed in the manufacturing process. I buffed
them off, reassembled the unit, and the problem disappeared.
AR-200,160
When getting weird copy quality problems, clean the contacts for the T/S unit (little
pigtail spring on side door). Grease from
rail gets in there and causes arcing.
FO-130,
UX-112, UX-222
Lines appear on copies, making them unclear. This is caused by dry capacitors in the power
supply, causing noise. Replace Capacitors C14, C15, C16, C17. This will fix fault.
FO-4800, 5400 JX-9400, 9600, 9660
Replace Toner Error Message
This is caused by the PCU board going on the machine. Replace the PCU board and the
machine will work forever then.

Drum Clicking
Drum
clicking is a heat problem in machine. Sharp
has a fix. Replace e-prom for longer fan run,
output tray with ribs and guide with ribs. All
to the tune of over $120.00 dealer cost with no compensation from Sharp, we are replacing
just the guide part #cpltp3088sc04. Also, the
drum that warps can be re-used. We add an
additional felt seal to bias the drum gear against the small white gear. So far this works
and saves a lot of bucks instead of replacing the drum unit along with the other above
parts.
Grinding Noise
If you get grinding noise after heavy use on an ux4000, switch toner to a fo-2850
cartridge. Sharp had a problem with the fo-2950 drum and toner cartridges. The
drum warps from the heat in the machine and won't work with the fo-2950 toner. The
drum is ok to use if you use it with a fo-2850 toner. But initially you will
probably need to switch out drum and toner cartridges to get rid of the grinding.
General
REPLACE TONER
If machine calls for toner repeatedly after replacing toner cartridge, check the toner
auger gears to make sure they turn freely. Many times these gears are bound up and the
mixing auger will not turn. Turn the gears several revolutions before putting the
cartridge back in. This will almost always cure the problem.
ADF's
Anytime you have mystery jams clean the one way bearings with alcohol and rough
up the shafts with scotch brite or fine sand paper. It is not required to replace the one
ways in most cases. Also ADF machines that change paper size in the middle of a run can be
cured by this same process. (A11 and A51 plus some others) What happens is the oneway
slips while the original is being measured by sensors causing an 11inch paper appear to be
14 inch, hence the auto select switches to draw from 14 inch cassette.
DOCUMENT FEEDERS
ROLLER ALTERNATIVES
Many of the document feeder 1st and 2nd feed rollers may be purchased at significant
savings. Even SF-463, or 465 ADFs can be retrofitted with SF-9750 ADF parts!
MISFEEDS
Many of SHARP'S document feeders have sensors that are voltage controlled by a pot on the
DF board. If you don't have a schematic it may take a little detective work, but if you
can't find any other cause for the jamming, you might want to try tweaking the sensor
voltages.
SF-A114 Multifeeding
Use can sep belts, part number FA5-5427-00. The Sharp belts are to slick.
The Canon belts have a dull finish. They will also cross over to SF-A54 and
the other models.
SF-A51/A11
If you are getting jams in these ADF's and the feed rollers are new, clean or replace
one-way gears in ADF(4 of them). Symptoms are: won't feed in orginals and jams(like faulty
feed rollers) or jams while doing 2nd side. Make sure you also clean the reversing
document sensor. This also applies to the SF-9750/9800 ADF's.
SF-A51/A11
Do not clean the four small counter roller belts with a solvent!! Use WD-40. This restores
the belt. These belts will fail and cause ADF misfeeds if dried out by solvents or
alcohol. Sharp training centers are also suggesting the use of WD-40 on feed paper stop
rollers. Just make sure you work it into the rubber well. No moisture should remain on
roller. It works very well and does not damage rubber like some solvents. Also restores
belts already cleaned with solvents.
SF A54
Doc feed jams and lead edge problems on the SF-A54 can be caused by the one way gears in
paper feed drive unit. You would save call backs if you replace all 3 one way gears and the
shaft with the 2 one way gears. These problems can be hard to pin point.Cleaning will
help,but you will be back.
SF-S14
Sorter - Causing F1-(00) codes.
Re-crimp wires that are forced into pins in the plastic jacks on sorter board. Rubber
insulation expands and forces wire out of piercing wedge of metal pin in plastic jack.
Problem can return many months or years later. Don't be surprised.
Machines with Masters
To prevent copy quality problems....when installing a new master I use electrical tape on the underside of the master that goes into the hold down clamp...also make sure that the area is vacuumed out completly
COPY QUALITY PROBLEMS
If you have a problem with the master wearing out before a PM is due check developer mylar
(above mag roller) if it is black and hardened it will scratch the master and leave lines
and black spots on the copy. Remove and replace only the mylar not the plastic support
underneath it. Try a roll of mylar from Alternative Technical Services @ 1-800-343-3533
part # 349 and two sided tape # 332. This should work and can be used on many machines for
the recovery blade in the cleaner box. The OEM blade is very expensive and should be
avoided if possible.
If you are getting banding (dark lines across the copy) check the master under the clamp if is transparent it will cause the bias to short out. There is a conductive strip Sharp has to correct this problem the bulletin # is SF-700-062 and is dated 4/11/84 if still available this will help, if it not make sure the pad and clamp are clean and use electrical tape on the pad as previously suggested.
If the copy has large void areas on it, check the separation assembly, if the plastic guide and tape are worn replace it, also check the guide roller the plastic guide rides on it could also be worn.
750/755/756/760
series machines
Symptom: Machine runs on and on and never comes to ready.
Solution:
What's wrong is that the master-positioning sensor never sees the home position of
the master due to its being clogged up with toner. These machines run REAL dirty and need
constant cleaning of the drum/master area. Originally, I thought the machine was adding
toner but 10 minutes later, it still never came to ready. Weird. Was able to take my
canned air and blow the sensor out temporarily to get it going. This may be a last resort
but taking the thing into the shop for a master cylinder removal and THOROUGH cleaning is
the only way to guarantee a not so quick recall for this problem. Then of course,
properly replace and calibrate (on the lean side) the developer.
2000 Series
Problem: Duplex
jams on all 2000 series.
Solution: Adjust the alignment plates of the duplex unit. The default is
set at 7. If jamming occurs in duplex adjust to 5. This adjust the plates to allow for
some "play" Paper tends to bind if the plates are too close together. Lowering
the value widens the space between the plates.
Problem: Paper wrapping around fuser
roller and jams. The exit roller is on the door on left side of copy. This
door gets
slammed pretty hard by end users, resulting in bending exit roller shaft.
Solution: If you will remove gear and bend shaft back towards copier
slightly, you will find that this improves paper feed from fuser.
Worn
transfer guide causes mis-feeds
This is the white, enameled guide attached to the corona assembly. A flat spot develops on
the guide at the very top of the guide where the paper moves across it. After about
100,000 copies the enamel wears through to bare metal, causing mis-feeds. Two symptoms: 1.
Paper stops dead on the transport belts, and 2. Paper stops momentarily on the transport
belts so the paper's late getting to the fuser/exit. Happens much more during humid
weather than dry. Happens only with 8 1/2 X 11 paper. Happens mostly with cover-up copies
where the copy has large black borders on the front, rear, and trailing edges. I've seen
this with 2030's, 2025's, 2040's, and 2022's. It probably also applies to other 2000
series, but I don't service these other models so I don't know for sure. The fix is to
replace the transfer guide. On the 2030 and on some other models, you should also replace
a Mylar sheet on the transfer guide.
2010 family
DRUM CARTRIDGE
The drum cartridge on these machines will frequenlty wear prematurely. The cause is the
drum drive. A pin and four flat surfaces. The metal pin will rub againist the the plastic
flats of the drum drive gear as it drives, waering out the drum drive gear. A small amount
of grease on the flats before installing a new cartridge will prevent the premature wear.
2X14
BYPASS FEEDER
Sometimes these feeders don't feed properly from new. We've found that
the seperator roller assy. has a couple of washers on it to adjust the
tension of the braking spring.
If it misfeeds remove one (or more) of these washers.
SF-2014 through SF-2514
Skewed copies or jams at pre-registration roller
When unpacking and setting up these machines, DO NOT grab the lip of the bypass when
lifting them out of the box. This can deform the metal upper paper guide and cause
skewed copies and/or jams. If this has already happened, you can cure it by applying
pressure to the bypass assembly just below the tray extension, thereby undoing the damage.
2020
Symptom: Waste toner overheats and hardens in bottle causing "little
man
light" to flash before waste toner is full.
A Solution: Use aluminum tape (heater duct tape), apply to underside of
waste toner compartment on drum unit to shield from heat. Also you might
want to lower fuser temp to 170. Some work well at 160. This tape is
fairly expensive, but worth it.
2022 / 2027 / 2035
TONER PROBLEMS
If you're having toner yield problems or the toner light comes on and there's still toner
in the cartridge, most likely the toner hopper shaft mylars loose in the hopper. Every
machine I have checked this is the case. Sharp has redesigned the shafts for this problem.
The part #'s are CSFTZ2114FC51 and CSFTZ2114FC52. More info is in tech bulletin
SF-2035-006. You may be able to only remove the loose mylars and it may work ok.
2035
DARK COPIES
The SF-2035 sharp copier has a dirt correction feature that can save calls or cause more
work on a call.If the copier is half way or more into the 80k pm cycle and cleaning the
lens and mirrors doesn't give you clean enough copies then using T/C 46-01 will cause even
darker copies because once you press print to change input value you reset dirt correction
feature.TIP!!! Press P (program button) value is stored and dirt correction is not reset.
Saved me time on many a call.Hope it will help you as well.
GEAR NOISE
If you hear a strong grinding noise coming from the back of the machine, first find out if
it originates in the developer section, all the way to the left (when you look from the
back of the machine). Or, it may be caused by the gear box in the middle of the machine.
If the cause is the developer section, you will need to replace the yellow coupling/gear
that drives the developer section. You should also replace the shaft on which it seats
because it is probably worn. If the noise comes from the gear box, you must take the unit
completely apart, clean the slide bearings and re-install the unit after you replaced the
worn gears, if any. If you just spray oil, you will be back very shortly.
2050
ADF EXIT JAMS
Possible cause could be white feed belt slipping. If belt has over 150k might want to
check.
SF2014/2114/2214
When the drum is replaced you turn off the mechanic light using crop code 24 sub code 7. This is not in the Service manual.
SF-2116, 2118, 2020, 2120
Symptom: Waste toner hardens in the waste toner bottle.
Cause: Excessive heat in the body cavity of the machine.
Solution: At the paper exit side of the machine, remove the cover, remove the
cooling fans and remove the ozone filters located BEHIND the fans. (These
filters get clogged easily and prevent proper air circulation in the machine. The
heat build-up will also cause early drum failure. I have been disposing of these
filters without any adverse effects).
SF-2116, 2118, 2020, 2120
Symptom: False waste toner light (machine shuts down)
When you are called out to empty the waste toner bottle, due to it really being full, the
damage is already done. The end of the waste toner auger that goes into the bottle
is sharp enough to sew with. When the waste toner fills up it pushes the auger into
the waste tube and the end begins to cut grooves in the "reinforced" section of
the tube.
Solution(s): The most effective way to solve this is to just replace the tube.
A quick fix however is to remove the tube, clean it and, with a round file, file out the
grooves. Simulation 15 clears the light.
SF-2118, 2116,
2120, 2020 Paper Skews
Check
the white plastic pressure roller assy under paper feed section. The rear
roller gets stuck in the up position causing a skew. Just press on the roller
to unclick it from this position and there will be no more problems. Be sure to show
the customer how to do it.
2116/2120
SHUTTING OFF
Problem found in many of these machines is that the customer calls in that
the machine is turning off. Problem is not electrical it's that the door
switch actuator is too short. Fix by pulling front inside cover (need to
pull op panel too) remove actuator (plunger type thing with 1 screw) and glue
small circle of flat plastic to the rear of plunger, and reassemble.Good idea
is to do this when setting up machine in your shop before delivery.
2116, 2118, 2216,
2020, 2120 - Occasional no feed from cassette(s).
Be sure feed-in tire moving arm doesn't slap up in to the foam pad
above it with the thin ribs of the arm assembly.
The arm assembly has ribs which bury itself snuggly into the foam silencer cushion. The
foam then holds the arm
from dropping down. Put tape on top of the arm to keep it out of the foam.
2118
Proper Cooling
Modification to upper left cover is needed to ensure proper cooling of this machine. Also
tell the customer to keep this in one of the coolest rooms in the office! This machine
must be kept out of the closets!
2214
DF HINGES
The doc feeder hinges (especially left one) break frequently and have
been modified at least once. Latest part #'s are: Left Hinge
MHNG-0178FCZ4, Right Hinge: MHNG-0179FCZ4 . Not positive if 0179 ends in
4 or not but should not matter. Pricing found to be $25-30 ea.
Left one breaks more due to higher spring load within. When it goes, it
may knock the connector off the sensor above it resulting in jamming
symptom.
SF-2216
Problem: Paper hanging half way out the fuser then stopped.
Solution: Replace the POD PWD, P/N CPWBF1084FC51, after and above the fuser unit.
SF-2530
I had an SF-2530 that when turned on would start the warm up cycle then turn itself off
after a couple of seconds and restart itself and would keep on doing this and never go any
farther in the warm up cycle. The cause turned out to be a short on the main motor board,
replaced the main motor and that took care of the problem.
3062
TRANSPORT BELTS STICKING
Symptom: Machine makes loud noise and completely locks up goes into
status code. when tech resets code machine runs freely. Recall waiting
to happen!
Cause: Transport belts leave tracks on assembly underneath. This buildup
eventually adheres to belts causing them to wrap around shaft and freeze
up machine.
One Solution: Clean underneath belts with soap solution. Dry and apply
starting powder underneath belts. Do this at every pm.
Locked-Up Fuser Bearings
These bearings can be recycled by soaking them in transmission fluid for a few days. We
have tested this on several machines and bearings have lasted over 500K. This should not
be standard practice, but having a set of these "recycles" around beats a down
machine.
Cutting off in copy cycle
Will act just like a high voltage short, op panel will go blank then will come back up,
only won't show c-2 code . Found main sw to be flaky. Go figure.
5700
Nearly Blank Copies
Customer was getting nearly blank copies. I realized the dv gear was not turning. I
finally figured out that the one way gear and bearing in the gear box was overly greased
by sharp causing it to slip. I cleaned all excess grease and problem was solved.

Scanner Clutch Parts Breakdown
Sharp technical bulletin # SF 7000-022A is a full break down of the clutch with
individual part numbers, the are easy to repair, almost always new rubber o-ring plates
will solve the problems all the same in 755 and 756 too. All parts still avaliable up till
now.
7200
JAMMING AT TURN AROUND
Historic problems with the turn aound door on right frame side may be corrected by some
innovative thinking. Remove and stretch the springs that force the little white
rollers mounted on the door. You may also want to peel away, and remount the mylar
tabs and position them about 3mm. towards the inside.
7300 SERIES
Outer Fuser Bearings Breaking
Place a washer that just clears the fuser rollers diameter but is small enough to be held
by the retaining clip on the front bearing between the bearing and the retaining clip.
CROP CODE
Crop code for toner density Is "COOP 44 Cassett button" the higher the number
the less toner the lower the number the more toner, This works well and do not be afraid
to change it quite alot, But every thing need be in good condition first- this mean no EE
codes or such other conditions.
INTERMITTENT VOID AREAS
The guide above the transfer corona (guides paper up to drum) is
adjustable on this machine. You might want to try moving this around if
you are getting intermittent void areas.
JAMMING AT THE EXIT
Paper jams at exit, half way out of the copier.
Most of the time this hard working Sharp works well. Try taking the
exit panel out and get to the exit switch. Clean it well, vacuum..etc.
This should solve the problem. (Technician from Ontario, Canada)
H4 CODES
The cooling fan goes bad and generates false signals. Replace the fan
if everything else checks good. It may also cause intermittent power failures
"machine goes dead".
JAMMING AT THE EXIT ROLLERS
Can be caused by the picker fingers. They come with a little gear like paper guide. If
they are not there the paper rises up and catches the top of the upper exit rollers.
PAPER FEED
Be sure to clean the first and second paper feed clutches with a light oil...they come
packed in a heavy black grease... also check that the right side panel is on
correctly....I have found a lot of these put on wrong.
PAPER FEED
Sometimes on this machine the lower pick off fingers can impair feed. To solve this
problem just remove the lower fingers. You can do without them.
7300, 7350
H-3 CODE
These machines will give you a false H-3 code. It's almost always the cold solder joints
on the transistor on the main board. Resolder and no more H3's. If very loose can also
cause a dead machine.
7300/7370
CASSETTE JAMMED
Cassette is hard to get in or out.....check to make sure that the paper feed unit is put
in correctly....the lead edge of the paper feed unit must go under the conveyance
unit.....or this will push the conveyance down causing the problem..simple...but I see it
alot...
JAMMING
Jamming at the exit....there are two guide rollers at the exit...sometimes they loose
their spring and cause the paper to hit the metal parts that hold the roller....easy to
check.
7320/7370
Blank copies
Found
cold soldering joints on copy lamp regulator board. Remove board from copier under front
cover display and re-solder four pin connector.
H3, H4 CODES
Check the fuses on the power supply, after all the usual stuff.
TONER PROBLEMS
When you go into diag. code 25 to level D.V. be sure to hit the cassette button...this
will make sure it doesn't under or overtone.
H3 CODE
If you have tried to fix the main board and that doesn't work....then its the power
supply.
HEAT LAMP FAILURE
On the Sharps 7320&7370 series Check the fuser heat roller for a metal guide plate in
side on the rear side of the roller if one is seen take it out it will cause premature
lamp failure by cutting into the ceramics of the lamp.
DV UNIT COARSE ADJUSTMENT
Between PMs it occasionally is necessary to decrease code 44 value to boost solids. On
some machines the code 44 value may already be too close to 0 to adjust. ( values below 10
seem to cause problems ) On the bottom of the DV unit behind thin black plastic strip,
lies the developer sensor. Pull away yellow or white paper decal to expose hole with soft
core worm screw adjustment. The square key hole is smaller than those found on Toshiba's
4121s, etc. A 1/8th turn ccw will boost Code 44 values 40 to 60 points upward. Note, this
may hamper Code 25 CA after developer replacement with an E Code above 99. This has been
implemented on several machines for approximately 10 to 12 months with no DV mix ratio
problems period.
In most of the cases I've faced related to main motor failure in Sharp's 7320 and 7370 this "death" is no more than a "mental comma". After disassembly I've found that either or both wires of the motor's brushes are "misrouted" avoiding full brush contact. Hmmm! 10 more minutes could cost a lot less bucks!
7320/7370/7900
COPY QUALITY
Overtoning and toner spray. You must set up code 44 to a number that is five digits higher
than that in code 25 and this will prevent this overtoning problem.
7370
NO MAIN MOTOR RUN? NO CODES?
Might start with a paper jam then just won`t run. The problem may be PT (photo interupter
clock) inside main motor plastic shroud. Clean or replace it. The part is not in the parts
book, P/N is VHPGP1A/-1, the package says HOTO COUPLER, think it should be PHOTO COUPLER.
PAPER OUT INDICATOR
On the Sharp 7370, if you press the print button and get a paper out indicator, and when
you bypass copy you get a jam indicator, check to see if the main motor is turning on when
you try to copy. Be certain to listen for the main motor and don't mistake it for the
cooling fan. If the main motor is not starting up, the paper feeder will not work, thus a
paper out indicator from the cassette feed and a jam indicator from the bypass. The main
motors in this machine are very high mortality.
7370
Problem: Copier would not go into initial rotation after coming out of
warm-up.
Solution: Drum blade was flipped, which had blown fuse on motor driver
board.
7700
L4 CODES
Main motor inoperative. Try resolding joints on main motor PCB. Cold solder joint.
7700-7750
COPY QUALITY
If the copy is lighter on the void side of the copy with blank areas,
check the lens mount, after the lens is cleaned it may have lifted out of
the tracks. The lens will still travel without problems so there are no
indications of the problem.
JAMMING IN FUSER
If the copies jam or buckle when the lead edge enters the fuser assembly
clean or replace the lower fuser bushings, replace the fiber bushings
with metal ones #NBRGC0053FCZZ
BLACK COPIES
If the exposure lamp comes on and then goes out when the scanner moves
further, check for a break in the wire harness to the lamp. The part
number is DHZI-1304FCZZ and needs to be soldered in place.
CLICKING NOISE
If the machine makes a clicking noise when running check the registration
clutch, the gear cracks causing the noise and sometimes paper jams. Part
number NGERH0434FCZZ.
SF 7800
U2 CODES AND SCRAMBLED MEMORY
Performing all the suggestions on the factory bulletins had no effect. In this case, the
charge corona was arcing to grid in the area of the rear block. Sharp figured a cover
wasn't necessary (duh!). Covering the end blocks with tape cured this problem which was
previously happening once a month.
7800/7850
7800, 7850 MAINTENANCE LIGHTS
The maintaince light has two meaninings. The light on constantly means the maintenance
cycle is up (normally 30,000 copies). Crop 20 clears it. The same light blinking means the
drum toner waste is too full. This lugs down the auger causing the spring drive clutch to
push a micro switch on the back frame. Cure it by removing the drum pull the plug on top,
dump the waste toner in a trash bag, run crop 25 for about 15 seconds then crop 14.
SERVICE INDICATOR - NO CODE
Check the drum unit it maybe full.
JAMMING
If you experience intermitant false jaming with the paper stopping in or near the fuser
assembly, check the lower fuser roller cleaning roller. Gumed and/or worn cleaning roller
bushing can cause the lower fuser roller from turning freely causing the intermitant jams.
7800/ 7850/ 7855
COPY QUALITY
Dark line going from front to back about in the middle of the copy.....the guide plate
going into the fuser unit is bent too far down...causing the paper to "bump"
into the lower roller.
7800/ 7855
WHITE LIGHTNING TYPE STREAKS
Most frustrating ! After trying EVERY OTHER TYPE AND THICKNESS of corona wire to restring
the main charge, I was advised to replace the wire with the exact 50 micron OXIDIZED WIRE.
(supposedly the exact same as the OEM ?? ) I could not believe it, but this solved
the problem. Other types of corona wire that I had used lasted about 10 or 20 copies and
the problem reappeared. Was able to purchase the spool of wire from Katun.
7850
L6 CODES AND BROKEN CASSETTES
Skip those updates by Sharp. Order part# VHI27C51243FC. This is a 7855 main board I.C.
This will tell your 7850 it is a 7855. This is not a tech bulletin. It works well. We have
done dozens of machines. This part costs about $40.00.
JAMMING
Sharp 7850 Jamming at suction belts or feeding into fuser rollers.
Observation: Look at the paper just as it feeds into the fuser rollers. If it hesitates,
you may be experiencing a friction problem from the infeed guide of the transfer corona.
It has a mylar strip which wears down on the edge, exposing bear metal. Solution...Cover
the guide with mylar or teflon tape, or replace guide asm.
Update
about putting teflon tape on corona in feed ramp when experencing jams because of friction
on bare metal, it's the glue from the worn away mylar sheet. The part number from Sharp to
replace the whole mylar sheet is PSHEP2701FCZZ, TC sheet upper. Works great.
7900
U2, PARTIAL BLANK, FULL MEMORY SCRAMBLE
On any of these problems I would take out the drum unit and shake and roll it around; if
you hear any rattle or sound of any kind, replace the drum immediately, or you will regret
it. The ground has come loose inside the drum assy. and it creates problems worse than a
charge grid ever thought of.
INTERMITTENT BLANK COPY
The main corona unit housing builds up with "corona scum",
and requires cleaning.
U1/U2 CODES
Don't go right to the battery! An arcing transfer/separation corona will produce the same
problem. Found out the hard way!
RANDOM CODES
If you are experiencing random codes there is an additional solution
without replacing a lot of parts. The codes as indicated previously in
this section is caused by main charger grid arcing. Make sure you are
using the new style grid and corona blocks, then when you install the
unit secure it by using a paper clip or similar object and fasten to the
screw just above the front corona block. The problem is when the corona
vibrates out of the machine just enough to cause arcing. This may sound
tacky but it has completely cured this problem and it has not happened
since it was done.
SHADOWED COPIES
If your are getting shadows on the copy and you have to constantly clean
the optics to get good copies don't forget to clean the filter glass
above the developer unit. Open the developer drawer and remove the top
panel and the black plate holding the filter glass, slide plate out and
clean both sides. Make sure you get it on the tracks when reinstalling.
SCANNER SLAMMING
Cause - Leaking primary corona block sending noise to scanner control board.
Remedy - Replace primary corona. LOGIC PROBLEMS
Machine does initial warmup ,but you press start key and machine goes haywire. I replaced
corona's, logic board and even the power supply. This machine gave me hell for a month. I
finally replaced the whole drum unit and I have not had problems ever since. So if
possible have extra drum unit instock the're expensive but you save time and make more
money!
LOGIC PROBLEMS
Sharp 7900 intermittant U, L, or H codes and/or jamming...A loose screen grid will cause
electrical "noise", and will confuse the main board. Broken fuser drive coupling
gear.
For a quick fix use the gear next to the paper advance handle on the bottom right, front
frame side. It is the same one and will not impair operation.
Closely inspect all the gears near the fuser cleaning drive before ordering parts.
LOGIC PROBLEM
Symptoms, Synch (refeed) clutch does not fire (sensor is good, clutch is good) Blanking
lamps intermittenly print whatever part of the copy they want to print. Random U1s and U5s
(maybe other Us as well)
Did you just change the charge corona wire? If so did the little tabs on the assy. break?
if so, change the assy and the problems will go away.
U1 CODES
Check the number one corona unit and replace if necessary. Sometimes this corona unit can
cause this code. COPY QUALITY
Toner problems. If the toner dispensing can't keep up with the consumption, check that the
mylar blades inside the toner unit are not binding. They have been known to become warped
and get stuck as they turn to stir up the toner. You can fix this by just cutting off the
warped part. It will still work and you can save the time and expense of replacing the
part.
COPY QUALITY
7900 intermittant blank/Partial copies. Make sure the charge corona wire is tight.
Sometimes, it oscillates and grounds out to the corona shell, causing blank or partial
blank. If blanking lamps stay on when they're not supposed to (causing a similar symptom),
The mirror motor PWB may be heating up and sending a false "on" signal to the
blanking lamps.
SF-7900/8300
LIDS
Replace those filmsy or worn out platen covers with SF-7800/7850/7855 lids. Most customers
prefer a solid lid. These lid will last longer also.
SORTER JAMS
Jamming as soon as the copy goes into the sorter trays... the sensor that is located in
the sorter is dirty this sensor is photo sensor that goes for the top of the sorter to the
bottom.
U-3 CODES
Check 2.5 amp fuse on power distribution PCB at upper rear center of copier. Has nothing
to do with what the book says is U-3 code problems. Book will have you looking at scanner
motor, PCB, and sensors.
LOGIC PROBLEMS
Symptoms: Random and intermittent U-5s and U-1s Refeed soloniod will not fire (clutch is
good, sensor is good) Blanking lamps wig out (randomly and intermittently come on leaving
some of the copy)
Problem: Ask yourself if you just changed corona wires. If so, did the little green tabs
break off. If so, change the corona assy and the problem is fixed. (This one had me
going!)
8100
H-4 CODES
Check the connector on front frame side. The plastic/metal connector fries
intemittently.
8200-8100-8260
MAG ROLLER REPLACEMENT
If the rear developer drive gears break check the mag roller for binding,
developer gets inside the mag roller and binds it causing to much drag.
Before you replace the mag roller (very expensive) install foam on the
screw side of the developer unit (not gear side). This protects the end
of the roller from coming in contact with developer, also check when you
replace all the v-rings, the v-ring goes on backwards on the screw side.
V-rings can be ordered from Sel-Drum a lot cheaper than OEM, sticky back
foam can be ordered from Alternative Technical Services @ 1-800-343-3530
and has a lot of other uses.
9750
STICKY KEYS
The keys on the SF 9750 (and
models with similar key pads) tend to stick in the actuated position. This locks up the
key pad and can cause you to replace the operation PWB. Dissasemble the key pad and clean
all the individual keys insuring that they move freely in their slots.
LIGHT COPY QUALITY
This problem showed up most noticably on the second side of duplexed copies. Poor fill and
faded print were ultimately caused by a slight bend in the spring-loaded image-transfer
guide plate which puts the copy moving through the machine in contact with the drum.
"Stategic reforming" seemed to work.
9750 / 9800 / S-451
PAPER JAM
If you find a copy in very bottom of machine, (on the paper ramp), check part#
OCW675720//// h-lever (SEC 33-129 in the service manual) for stress cracks in plastic
lever. This lever is in the invertor section on rear side by the invertor solenoid.
DRUM LIFE
Check to see if your drum sep pawl mechanism is moving pawls back and forth. Replace
soleniod arm and cams if not. This will increase your life of your drum
EXPOSURE LAMP
Check to see if your first mirror base front guide roller is working. Replace it if not or
has flat spot. This will save replacing exposure lamps (less vibrations on lamp)
HOT ROLLER GEAR
Clean them ozone filters (keeps fuser cooler and optics). You won't
have to replace the hot roller gear as often.
SORTER PROBLEMS
Bizarre problems with the sorter (intermittant jamming, indexer moving sluggishly) can be
caused by a weak power supply in the copier.
9800 Waste Toner Coil
It's not hard to know when the waste toner coil binds and breaks on the sf 9800,
but there are a couple of things to save you from a recall. First be sure to replace
plastic tube (top section) as well as auger coil. This tube usually gets damaged
when coil breaks and can leak. Also remove waste toner unit rear cover and clean waste
toner sensor switch. Weighted platform actuates this switch. Be sure to check
continuity of this switch!!
Z-SERIES
JAMMING
Paper jams just prior to FUSER. Remove and replace large gear on Fuser drive swing
gear assembly. ( metal bushing moves out of gear causing gears to not engage properly.)
FUSER PROBLEMS
Fuser rollers do not always grab paper right away. Replace lower fuser roller. Flat
spot develops on roller.
BUSHING PROBLEMS
On many Z-series SHARPS the bronze bushings in the gears come loose. The bushing moves
beyond the gear surface and causes binding and lost drive problems. Bushings can be
tapped in using a rubber or plastic hammer. (Fat plastic screw driver handle works
in a pinch.)
FUSER GEARS
Another reason to keep fuser drive gears in stock is the tab on the inside breaks and the
rollers turn fine until paper goes through them.
TONER
When the toner lite comes on your z series copier, take the collection bottle off and
vacuum it out, then there is a plug behind, and fill it up with SF-76NT1(SF-760) or
SF-77NT1(SF-7700). make sure you fill it up 1/2 to 2/3 full. if you over fill it will take
the drum and dv box out.
Z-50
The other day I was working on a Sharp Z-50 machine. Just needed to put in a drum
unit and clean the thing. As luck would have it the plastic trangular power switch
actuator in the t/d cartridge track broke when I slid the t/d cart. back in. I
was in a bind. Didn't have one with me. Not wanting to tell the customer that
I broke the machine I took a crimp on electrical connector for splicing 2 wires together
and pushed it onto the rod which is pressed when the front door is closed. The red
crimp on connector fits like a glove. I had to cut the plastic down to the metal on
one side of the connector because it was to long but other than that it worked fine.
In fact I think it is better than the original design. From now on I will be
modifying all my Z-Series customers as the original actuator breaks. This will work
with almost all the Sharp Z-series machines. It also will work with the Xerox
equivelants.
Z-50/70
BROKEN GEAR
The heat roller gear on these machines breaks all the time, so you may want to keep one or
two on hand at all times.
Z-57
The paper starts to come out, hits the exit switch but
registers a jam. Switch checks good. Try a manual feed and hold the paper back. You will
get an L code. Time for a new scan clutch.
Z-72/76/77
L CODE
Scanner moves to the left but wont go back to home...
The reverse clutch is out on the scanner unit...you can have these units rebuilt or try it
yourself....good luck.... this also goes for the xerox 5009 re...which is built by sharp.
Z85
I had a problem with the machine jamming upon initial feed, I had replaced the clutch
springs and feed tires, pulled the scanner out and checked its clutch springs, had
replaced them four months ago, still good and the machine still jammed. Well, after two
and half hours later I realized the paper wasn't reaching the secondary feed rollers
enough and the cause of it was the right side cover was warp and the plastic guides molded
as part of the r/s cover was not helping the paper push into the secondary rollers, so I
took 1/4" wide semi-rigid mylar I made from another part and stuck them in between
the guides, 1" long, about four to five will work, and the jamming stopped, because
the mylars were helping the paper feed into the secondary rollers.

Doc. feed jams
Having
consistent doc feed jams on any of these series machines. Check the clutch dog arm
(plastic) in the clutch assembly. The arm is mounted on a plastic pin, which breaks and
leaves the arm dangling. You can remove the assembly and replace the broken pin with a
small sheet metal screw. Works good as new and probably won't break again.
