631 Fax
I have seen a problem with a 631 fax software installation on computers using S3 video cards. The fax software will not install. The solution I found was to change the video driver to a standard VGA, install the software, and then switch back to the S3 video driver.

631 Fuser
The Toshiba 631 facsimile is known for fuser problems. It seems to blow the lamp often, to make matters worse, Toshiba does not sell the lamp separately, you need to replace the entire fuser unit. This seems to happen because the fuser temperature is set too high. Set the temperature a setting or two lower than the recommended setting on the fuser unit (the recommended settings number is stamped on the fuser unit), just don't set it too low or the toner will not stick to the paper.

COUNTER RESET CODE
HERE IS TH DRUM COUNTER RESET CODE FOR MANY TOSHIBA FAX. FIRST: Turn OFF, press {1} and {3} keys at same time and turn ON while holding keys for a count of 5. NEXT: a: Press {MENU} key and select MAIN menu. b: Press {9} key and select TEST MODE menu. c: Press {2} key and select MAINTENANCE menu. d: Press {7} key and select DRUM OPERATION menu. e: Press {1} key and select COUNTER CLEAR menu. f: Press {1} key to RESET COUNTER. FINALLY: Turn machine OFF and then ON to clear test mode.

Problem : Display says "Ink Roll Empty" and ink roll is good or new
Solution : There are two clutches that control the movement and the tension of the ink film. I have seen one of these (the rear one) lose its retaining ring. This is an orange colored press-on ring. Looks plastic. Cheaply designed. When this ring is missing, the clutch separates and spreads therefore allowing drive loss and slight ratcheting noise. You may think that the ink roll has enough pressure, but it does not without that clutch being fully engaged. I used a
standard e-clip to repair mine. Worked like new.

Replace old style sep. pad in A.D.F. Call Paramount Imaging (1-800-745-7676)for $5.00 they will give you Part number. Just ask for new style. If you adjusted the tension youll have to back it off this baby will seperate like mad!

SERVICE MODE
TO GET TO THE SERVICE MODE OF MANY 5XX TOSHIBA FAX AND OTHER MODELS : TURN OFF MACHINE AND WAIT A FEW SECONDS. THEN HOLD DOWN THE # 1 AND # 3 KEYS WHILE TURNING MACHINE ON. THIS WILL PUT YOU INTO THE MAINTENANCE MODE. YOU CAN THEN SCROLL THROUGH.

If you're experiencing jams from casstte or into exit tray any mylars involved might be worn or the plastic surfaces that the lead edge contacts may be "kind of rugged" from wear; replace if you can, but a little film of white grease on the area can help the paper flow smoothly. especially at places where the paper turns if coming from a lower feed cassette.
